SHIVER (LTMCD 2487) £10
The sublime debut album from 1983, co-written and produced by Tot Taylor and featuring the classic singles Attention Stockholm and I Experienced Love, as well as the spine-tingling title track. Literate, sophisticated European pop music with a seductive Sixties spy thriller vibe. Think Michael Caine and Hildegard Knef sipping dry martinis chez Birkin and Barry. Bonus cover version The Windmills of Your Mind is taken from the Crepuscule compilation album Moving Soundtracks. 11 tracks, 50 minutes of music (all tracks digitally remastered in 1997). Full tracklist: Attention Stockholm, Shiver, Pillow Talk, I Experienced Love, Swedish Modern, I Beat The System, The Dossier On Virna Lindt, Episode One, Intelligence, Underwater Boy, Letter To Sergei, Groom, The Windmills Of Your Mind.
Reviews: "Intrepid undercover agent disguised as a top international fashion model sets out on a secret mission behind the Iron Curtain, armed only with a firm sense of fair play and a gadget-filled powder compact" (NME); "Euro-eccentric. Virna Lindt casts herself as a mysterious blonde in a loving pastiche of Continental movie music" (Sounds); "Only the surly amongst you can fail to acknowledge the splendour of Virna Lindt's new single I Experienced Love single, and the equally thrilling Shiver lp, the epitome of Compact's sleek, chic Sixties tease" (The Face); "Imagine a pastiche of all those old Sixties spy series, like Danger Man, The Avengers and The Man From Uncle. Well, this would be the perfect soundtrack to go with it"(London Evening Standard); "I shouldn't be liking it, but this pop-corn is irresistible" (NME); "Virna Lindt epitomized the Compact mix of sophistication and kitsch. Her songs are ripe with allusions to international espionage and Bergman films, her vocals whispered atop backing tracks of cool jazz, sound collage, and vintage soundtrack gestures. If you are the sort of music lover who can name every Bond girl, this stuff is for you" (The Stranger, 06/2007)

PLAY/RECORD (LTMCD 2489) £10
The second Virna Lindt album, originally released by Compact in 1985. Written and produced by Virna during a three-week holiday in London, Play/Record probes thorny issues such as girls who can't stand the colour red, the numbing effect of the new media, and subterfuge and skulduggery in her adopted home town (on the single My Home Town). 12 tracks, 40 minutes of music (all tracks digitally remastered in 1997). Full tracklist: Add It Up, Whistle Wind, My Hometown, Burn, The Crack-Up, Festivo, Under The Stars, Wild Strawberries, Any Colour But Red, My Favourite Ring, Whistle Wind (Reprise), Play/Record.
Reviews: "Ms Lindt deftly conveys a sense of breezy, delirious Sixties camp. Arch instrumentals such as the title track and Add It Up are nothing short of wondrous, and the album is a delightful and accurate evocation of a period when music was allowed to be fun" (Melody Maker); "A uniquely crafted voiceover masterpiece, the diverse tempo moves from the sunny waft of single My Home Town to the more sombre tones of Any Colour But Red" (Sounds); "Lush, intelligent and very, very sexy" (Underground); "I love women who can't sing. I don't mean tone-deaf, but the type of artist the French call a diseuse, ie a performer who recites lyrics over music. Vocalists who do not even attempt to carry a tune - even when it may be as close as the piano accompaniment - because it's just too cumbersome, and, really a girl can't be expected to hold anything heavier than a cocktail in these shoes" (The Stranger, 06/2007); "Good reissue, full of icily Continental pop" (Word, 11/2007); 'As it snows, Virna pulls up the collar of her fur coat and lays down a suitably filmic soundtrack' (Sounds, 11/1985)
