Isabelle Powaga formed chic electro-samba trio Antena in Paris in 1981 together with Sylvain Fasy and Pascale Moiroud. After scoring cult hits with their arch single The Boy From Ipanema and classic mini album Camino Del Sol in 1982, the band left Les Disques du Crepuscule for major label releases on Island and Mercury. As Isabelle Antena, Isabelle returned to Crepuscule for the album En Cavale in 1986, followed by her second solo set Hoping For Love. Since then Isabelle has released a further eleven albums (including Carpe Diem and Easy Does It), spanning jazz, funk, latin and smooth pop, and achieving notable success in Japan and the Far East. She has quietly sold more than a million albums, yet remains something of an underground artist, feted by the likes of Gilles Peterson, Thievery Corporation and Buscemi. 2006 saw the release of a new Antena album, Toujours du Soleil, followed in 2010 by Bossa Super Nova. L'ALPHABET DU PLAISIR (BEST OF 1982-2005) (LTMCD 2452) £10
This seamless Best Of collection features 20 tracks, ranging from singles to favourite album tracks to remixes, including several by the original Antena trio. From the electro-samba of debut single The Boy From Ipanema (1982) through to the pin-sharp jazz vamp of Omerta Bossa (2005), this collection amounts to a funkee A to Z of pure pleasure. New artwork with detailed liner notes, 72 minutes of music. Full tracklist: The Boy From Ipanema, Camino Del Sol, Seaside Weekend, Be-Pop, Laying on the Sofa, Le Poisson des Mers du Sud, Je Respire, Eclat de Nuit, Ce Mortel Ennui, Antena, Serpent a plumes, Sur ton ile, Deux enfants, La Raison du plus cool, Sous tes paupieres closes, Le temps qui court, Eternity, Nothing to Lose, Omerta Bossa, Antenacidjazz.

Reviews: "A fruit of early '80s adventures in genre, Antena determined to combine a love of bossa nova, chanson, disco and synth-pop. Their debut, the John Foxx-produced Boy From Ipanema, still sounds delightfully fresh, like a Ze records Bananarama. By 1983 Isabelle was solo, and this compilation tracks her progress from stylish contemporary of Sade to Benelux legend and winding up the chic choice of acid jazzers, the Japanese, and Thievery Corporation in the 21st Century" (Uncut, 1/06); "Her music is a mix of Brazilian jazz, funk and soul and the result is absolutely breathtaking. L'Alphabet... is an album packed with 20 beautiful tracks full of energy, life and pasion. A real treat!" (Whisperin' & Hollerin', 12/05)

CAMINO DEL SOL LTMCD 2465 £10
Remastered, definitive edition of the debut Antena album, recorded in 1982 by Isabelle Powaga, Sylvain Fasy and Pascale Moiroud, and originally released on Les Disques du Crepuscule. This new edition includes 16 tracks, with the 5 songs from the original vinyl mini album joined by 4 issued on the cult single The Boy From Ipanema (produced by John Foxx), together with a slew of rare demo and compilation tracks. Booklet contains rare images and detailed liner notes. 16 tracks, 60 minutes of music. The clip for Boy From Ipanema appears on our DVD collection Umbrellas in the Sun - see below for details. Full tracklist: Camino Del Sol, The Boy From Ipanema, To Climb the Cliff, Silly Things, Sessexa, Achilles. Bye Bye Papaye, Noelle a Hawai, Les Demoiselles de Rochefort, Spiral Staircase, Unable, Seaside Weekend, Franz, Ingenuous, Joppo & Eno, On the Boat.

Reviews: "This essential collection of their entire recorded output is 2005's most charming musical surprise. The route map of early 1980s indie pop is currently being rewritten on a daily basis and Antena merit a chapter of their own, complementing the similarly unearthed and now highly respected ESG. Isabelle Powaga, Sylvain Fasy and Pascale Moiroud formed Antena in 1981, and created a radical and intuitive fusion of bossa nova, archaic samba-jazz and primitive Kraftwerkisms, and signed with Belgian label Crepuscule. Opening track Camino Del Sol sets the mood and could almost be Stereolab, but is so skeletal that the only possible contemporary influence must have been Young Marble Giants. Antena laid the ground for Stereolab and Bebel Gilberto without even knowing it" (Mojo, 12/05); "Antena offered a brave art bossa nova design comparable to Weekend and Lizzy Mercier Descloux. The ironic 'tropical wave' and easy listening aesthetic stands the test of time, and since Antena have been less imitated than Young Marble Giants they still sound surprisingly fresh. Includes ten bonus tracks and the usual excellent LTM booklet" (Spex, 5/06); "Twenty-four years on, Isabelle Powaga and her co-conspirators retain a sparkle that has deserted so many of their contemporaries over the years. Electro samba is superficially correct, but there are other forces at play. They cleave to the two-fingers Casio school, or a Farfisa electric piano sound, minimal drum machine settings, and Powaga's melancholy voice. What rescues their charming balladeering from the faux-naif is their evident affection for the genre, but also their sly philsophy of subverting it. I'd love to see them on either side of the camera in a remake of Jules et Jim" (The Wire, 7/06); "Will I be forever fated to like things that sound a bit like bloody Stereolab, I wonder? I'm not complaining when that thing is Antena, the French electro-space-bossa trio whose 1982 debut has now been agreeably re-presented (with tons of extra tracks) for a more understanding listenership. Antena were always a bit of a cult concern, but it's hard to see why. Granted, their odd little indie sambas were vivacious, wispy and possibly out of kilter with the dour post-punk times. OK, they did blend drum machines with Brazilian percussion, Kraftwerkian synths and Gilberto/Hardy vocals, and perhaps it wasn't so easy to get Tropicalia records back then. Maybe they seemed too kitschy: too happy, too light, too frivolous. But they're perfect right now. Stand-out tracks include Spiral Staircase, with a frantic motorik and cheap drumrolls framing a breathless, detached vocal and a twinkling synth straight off Gary Numan; and Achilles, a brilliant, sinister, synergistic masterpiece that sound like Showroom Dummies in a Sao Paulo jazz club, with Alison Statton of Young Marble Giants and Oz Mutantes on vocals" (Plan B, 6-7/06); "Wistful, seductive and strangely narcotic… Leads you breathlessly through a lush electronic garden" (Melody Maker, 1983); "Five songs of sultry splendour" (NME, 1983)

BOSSA SUPER NOVA LTMCD 2554 £10
For her third album as Antena, Isabelle decided to rummage through her attic and dust off some classic Roland equipment: the TR-808 drum machine, Bass Line sequencer and SH09 monophonic synth, all of which were used on the classic debut Antena album Camino Del Sol in 1982. Adding to this retro theme, old schoolfriend Jean Christophe Clair contributed lyrics and songs ideas in remembrance of times past. Isabelle then arranged and produced the songs with Denis Moulin at their studio in the south of France, joined by Penelope Fasy on vocals, and with Marco De Meersman adding extra percussion. Stand-out tracks include Une Francaise sur Mars (bossa nova with cosmic sounds), Straight to the Point (an homage to Serge Gainsbourg and Pierre Henri), Little Boxes (country bossa) and Under Your Closed Eyelids (featured in season two of The Boondocks). The lyrics are half in English, and half in French. Full tracklist: Une Francaise sur Mars, For No Reason, Happy In My Garden, Le Grenier d'Isabelle, Straight to the Point, Leave Las Vegas, Amour Cosmique, A Night of Infinity, Under Your Closed Eyelids, Hollywood Is Dead, Cine-Club, Little Boxes

Reviews: 'An easygoing treat of a release, another instance of the understated Brazilian pop grooves that Antena has always openly loved coming to the fore in her own inspired way. With further collaborative help musically and lyrically from a childhood friend of Isabelle's, Jean-Christophe Clair, Antena approached Bossa Super Nova in much the same way that Depeche Mode did with the previous year's Sounds of the Universe, intentionally taking technology and equipment from the band's earliest days to re-explore them for a different songwriting and arrangement approach. So instead of the heavily shrouded in reverb stylings of Camino del Sol, the early drum machines and keyboards here stand out much more crisply, while Antena's vocals similarly are of her as the accomplished and experienced performer rather than the young enthusiast out to see what might work. Songs like the insect-buzz tinged Happy in My Garden aim for the sweetly dreamy while Straight to the Point, a giddy celebration of Serge Gainsbourg, becomes a frug-worthy acid rock confection suitable for the French legend in his late sixties days. The combination of science fiction bliss (Amour Cosmique, Une Francaise sur Mars) and reflective nostalgia (Hollywood is Dead, a lament for lost stars of the past) makes for another excellent Antena album, once more' (All Music Guide, 04/2010); 'Bossa Super Nova is an experiment of sorts - the result of several hours of loft-rummages, heady rehearsals with analogue equipment and a deliberate nod to their debut album, Camino Del Sol. It's rather tasty, in fact there's no low-point throughout the entire set. Go and buy it!' (LastFM, 04/2010); 'If you're a fan of Stereolab, St Etienne, Louis Philippe - or even Stock Hausen and Walkman - you'll know what this French act sound like. Repeat plays will allow the simple melodies and refrains to under your skin like a warm Mediterranean sun' (Record Collector, 05/2010); 'Antena's true magic is an ability to continually enhance their sound without straying too far from either roots or current interests (downtempo House and Lounge, for example); another complete work in a seductive and ongoing saga' (The Big Takeover, 09/2010)

EN CAVALE bis LTMCD 2432 £10
Originally released on chic Belgian indie Les Disques du Crepuscule in 1986, En Cavale ('on the run') marks Isabelle's transition from minimalist electro-samba trio to smooth pop sophisticates. Largely produced by Martin Hayles (Orange Juice, Daryl Hall), the album's cosmopolitan dance-pop stylings embrace disco (Be Pop, Don't Think About It), latin-jazz (Play Back) and chilled-out ballads (Seaside Weekend, Ten Minutes). Little wonder, for at the time Antena cited Stan Getz, Astrud Gilberto, Chic and Sister Sledge as major influences. The album also includes a smart cover of the Chic classic Easy Street. Running for 70 minutes, this remastered CD includes seven bonus tracks including a rare 12" issued on New Dance in 1984. Full tracklist: Play Back, Easy Street, Seaside Weekend, Ten Minutes, How Can They Tell, Be Pop, Magic Words, Booby Trap, Life Is Too Short, Don't Think About It, Blow The World Away, Mummy's Not At Home, Time To Work, Behind The Door, Be Pop 12", Life Is Too Short 12".

Reviews: "Isabelle quite possibly bears one of the finest voices of the last 20 years of popular (or unpopular) music. She stands on her own actually so suited is her voice for the warm breeze tones that whirls around these discs, so comfortable her attitude is mirrored in the jocularity of South America, the laziness of Spain and the scented beauty of the South of France" (The Big Takeover, 3/05); "That Isabelle Antena didn't make a bigger splash with this album at the time is downright remarkable, though at least those who listen to it now will be well rewarded" (All Music Guide, 04/05); "Effortlessly sleek and undeniably sensual" (NME, 09/1984)

HOPING FOR LOVE bis LTMCD 2434 £10
Hoping For Love saw Isabelle step left of the dancefloor, expanding her sophisticated latin, funk and samba palette to include more jazz and acoustic stylings. Stand-out tracks on this popular album include Laying on the Sofa, La Tete Contre Les Murs and soft Mediterranean ballad Le Poisson des Mers du Sud. Running for over 60 minutes, this remastered CD includes five bonus tracks, including English language versions of Little Fish from the Southern Seas and I Will Jam, as well as rare 12" remix versions of Laying on the Sofa (Mark Kamins) and La Tete Contre les Murs (Marc Moulin). Full tracklist: Le Poisson des Mers du Sud, Quand le Jazz Entre En Lice, Melodie, L'Ideal, Musique de 4 a 6, Toutes les Etoiles de Tunesie, Otra Bebera, La Tete Contre les Murs, Laying on the Sofa, Naughty Naughty, Sweet Boy, Des Calins - Des Caresses, Carriage Blind, I Will Jam, Little Fish from the Southern Sea, Laying on the Sofa (Remix), La Tete Contre Les Murs (Remix).

Reviews: "Le Poisson des mers du sud is a modern standard, without contest. It is outside the rock spectrum that some of the most appealing, progressive and sensual music lives, breathes and inspires" (The Big Takeover, 03/05); "Here Isabelle explores a stripped down, jazz-pop sound on many tracks, and a defiant return to French as the lead language." (All Music Guide 04/05)

CARPE DIEM bis LTMCD 2485 £10
Originally released by Crepuscule in November 1992, Carpe Diem was recorded with musicians including Marco De Meersman (drums) and Fritz Sundermann (guitar) at Studio Caraibes in Brussels. Isabelle produced the album, on which the vibe is chiefly cool jazz, latin and bossa, and complements perfectly Isabelle's warm voice and soft, sensual lyrics. Carpe Diem is her personal affirmation of life and music, following the tragic death of her husband and musical partner Dirk Schoufs. The extended 66 minute CD also includes all 10 extra tracks from Isabelle's previous album, Les Derniers Guerriers Romantiques, released in April 1991, and recorded by Isabelle with Dirk Schoufs and a crack team of crack jazz and bossa players. Full tracklist: Le Syndrome de Peter Pan, Instant de Trac, L'Amour Eternel, Sous les Beobabs, Deux Enfants, Calife Blues, No Puedo Sin Ti, Il Preciso Perdoar, Corto Prend le Large, Inspire Moi, L'Inconnu Vers L'Infini, Quand les Amants, Jungle Zone, L'Amour Sauvage, Sur Ton Ile, I Love You Mr Hyde, Le Visiteur du Soir, S'en Aller, La Ballade du Seigneur de la Guerre, La Dernier Guerrier Romantique, Dans un Million d'Annees, Aquarius.

Reviews: "Modern electro-samba, full of latin, bossa and jazz vibes that slot in easily with Antena's smooth, soft voice, complete with ten extra tracks from her previous album (Record Collector, 03/07)

ON A WARM SUMMER NIGHT (TOUS MES CAPRICES) LTMCD 2448 £10
The third solo album by Isabelle Antena, originally released on Crepuscule in 1988 as Tous Mes Caprices. Produced by Isabelle and Martin Hayles, the album mixes uptempo funk with straight jazz, and includes a co-write with French film soundtrack maestro Gabriel Yared as well as a cool samba arrangement of Frank Zappa's Village of the Sun. Along with Carpe Diem, this was one of Isabelle's bestselling solo albums. 16 tracks, 56 minutes of music, with five bonus tracks recorded live in Japan on her June 1991 tour. Full tracklist: Caprices, Sept Heure Que J'aime, Romancia Del Amor, Eclat de Nuit, Une Journee Banale a New York City, Je Respire, From Day to Day, Memories, Young Captive, Village of the Sun, Time to Work, Romancia Del Amor (live), Une Journee Banale a New York City (live), Eclat de Nuit (live), Easy Living (live), Be-Pop (live).

Reviews: Isabelle had initially wanted to cut a pure jazz album at the start. While the end result turned out differently, hearing her beautiful, warm voice in playful excelsis on the Brazilian-tinged cool sass of "Romancia del Amor" (with some great, trickily arranged backing vocals as a subtle but key element) as well as cool, moody beauties like "Je Respire," is reason enough to listen. Cuts like "Eclat de Amor," and especially the vibrant "Une Journee Banale a New York City," bursting with mid-20th century vocal vamps and big band arrangements, hint at the album's original plan, while other songs like "Memories" provide enjoyable takes on more recent dance grooves (Allmusic, 2005)

EASY DOES IT LTMCD 2420 £10
Easy Does It was produced by Isabelle with Denis Moulin in 2004. Her first pure bossa album, Easy Does It features nine new songs written by Isabelle, as well as interpretations of classic material by Henry Mancini and Antonio Carlos Jobim. As an extra treat, the package includes a 39 minute companion disc titled Issy Does It, featuring eight pin sharp remixes and alternate productions by Buscemi, Thievery Corporation, Shape, Nicola Conte, La Malice, Yukihiro Fukutomi, Dr Drak, Musiq for Pleasure and others. Full tracklist: (disc one) Nothing to Lose, Moonlight Dancer, A Rainbow (Can't be Forever), O Sapo, So Tinha de ser com Voce, Omerta Bossa, Stars, Your One and Only, Easy Does It, Aguas Calmas, Fresh, Obrigado, La Pecheresse a la Ligne, Sweet Kiss; (disc two) Nothing to Lose (Thievery Corporation remix), Omerta Bossa (Nicola Conte version), La Pecheresse a la Ligne (Buscemi remix), Easy Does It (La Malice remix), Fresh (Yukihiro Fukutomi remix), The Star System (Dr Drak mix), Your One and Only (Musiq for Pleasure remix), Spirituosi (Este Samba) (Shape version)

Reviews: "A combination of interpretive covers and originals that all suggest a perfect, warm late-night setting under a full moon at the best beach club imaginable. The winner on the remix disc must be Nicola Conte's revamp of Omerta Bossa, which features a Conte-led bossa band providing a totally new arrangement" (All Music Guide, 04/05); "This delightful album of pure Bossa Nova songs is a weapon of stealth for any would-be lover of either sex and any inclination" (Whisperin' & Hollerin' 04/05)

ISSY DOES IT (REMIXES) LTMLP 2420-2 £12
DJ-friendly vinyl edition of the remix set available as a bonus CD with LTMCD 2420. The seven featured tracks are: Nothing to Lose (3.00) (Thievery Corporation); Pecheresse à la Ligne (4.00) (Buscemi); Omerta Bossa (5.57) (Nicola Conte); Spirituosi (Este Samba) (3.45) (Shape); Fresh (5.36) (Yukihiro Fukutomi); Easy Does It (4.49) (La Malice); The Star System (5.53) (Dr Drak).

TOUJOURS DU SOLEIL LTMCD 2456 £10
Retrofuturism from the re-made, re-modelled Antena trio, which for this 2006 album consisted of main songwriter Isabelle Antena together with daughter Penelope Fasy (in place of her father Sylvain) and deejay Axailes Solar. Conceived as a sequel to Camino Del Sol, Toujours du Soleil (Always the Sun) was recorded on the French Riviera - where else? - and produced by Dr Drak, Shape and The Cool Groove Sessions. Featuring a stellar cast of prestigious international guests, the 2006 Antena trip takes you from Paris to Tokyo, Goa to Washington DC. Stand-out tracks include pin-sharp stepper Le Spinner (featured on a Samsonite luggage advert), future lounge favourite Toujours du Soleil and electro-blissout Love Is To Blame, as well as three tracks co-written with Rob Garza and Eric Hilton of Thievery Corporation. 14 tracks, artwork by Isabelle. Full tracklist: Le Spinner, Toujours du Soleil, Caribbean Island, Rendez-vous Manque, Blind Date, Horse with No Name, Issy est d'ailleurs, Love is to Blame, Groovy Grooving Groove, Le Ping le Pong, Starlit Skies, Les Rois des Voleurs, 7 Colors, Liquid Sky.

Reviews: "The reconstituted Antena is unexpected, but when the end results are as enjoyable as Toujours du Soleil there's no need to complain. The most dramatic change from the days of Camino del Sol comes in the arrangements: instead of murky but captivating negotiations between post-punk melancholia and lighter pop roots, everything here is much more in keeping with Isabelle's later and brighter blends of jazz, bossa nova and gentle dance grooves. Often the latter stands a little more to the fore, adding an extra kick to tunes like Love Is To Blame and Blind Date. In contrast, the title track shows the more traditional Antena side very well, while Antena's most notable American supporters, Thievery Corporation, help out with a bit of co-writing, notably the title track and the slinky but sharp beats of Rendez-vou Manque" (Billboard, 05/06); "A wonderful return to form that continues with the easy listening and sweet melodic vibe that has paved the way for everyone from Everything But The Girl and St Etienne to Brazilian Girls and Thievery Corporation. Blind Date and Caribbean Islands offer a more polished, cosmopolitan Euro-dance feel, and TDS still brims with the kind of smart dance tunes that threaten to whisk you away to far locales" (Exclaim!, 07/06)

LOVE IS TO BLAME-REMIXES LTMS 12-2475 £4
